Blue Card processing with other that university degrees

On of the main requirement for a German Blue Card is that the applicant is holing a university degree. Since November 2023, an Blue Card application can also be filed based on a tertiary education certificate.

The changes of the German immigration act in November 2023 also let to a new definition of the skill requirements for EU Blue Card applicants.

Since the implementation of the new law, applicants who have completed a tertiary education programme (at an institute of applied sciences, vocational college or similar) can now also apply for a Blue Card. 

This requires that the degree is equivalent to a university degree.

Equivalence is given if the degree requires at least three years of education or training and is at least level 6 on the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED 2011) or level 6 of the European Qualifications Framework in Germany.
