What is the German Naturalization test?

The 33 question long naturalisation test is a prerequisite for securing your German citizenship. To pass, applicants must answer 17 questions correctly.

The German naturalization test is a written exam in which you have to answer a series of questions on various aspects of German life. You must pass this test in order to obtain German citizenship.

The test consists of a total of 33 questions, of which you must answer at least 17 correctly in order to pass. The first 30 questions are about general knowledge, for example about German history, social and cultural rules and regulations. The last three questions relate to the region in which you live in Germany.

As a rule, the naturalization test is used to determine whether the applicant has the necessary familiarity with Germany's legal system, society and living conditions. The test consists of 33 questions including three questions which apply only to the German state where the applicant lives. Applicants must choose the correct answer from four possible responses.

Persons under age 16 and those who do not meet the testing requirements due to illness, disability or age do not have to take the test. And anyone who has graduated from a German school or from German higher education in law or social, political or administrative sciences does not have to take the test
