Blue Card processing - How to check if a foreign university degree is recognised in Germany (Anabin)?

The recognition of a foreign university degree plays an important role when it comes to immigration. As an example, a Blue Card will only be issued if both the university and the field of study are fully recognised in Germany.

The German authority database containing all recognised foreign university degrees is called Anabin.

To check, if a foreign university and the degree issued by this university are fully recognised in Germany (and can be used for immigration), the following the steps need to be taken:

Go to http://anabin.kmk.org/

1. Identification of the University:

  • Check "Institutionen" on the left side;
  • Click the tab "suchen" on in the middle part;
  • Choose country of issuing on the top field on the middle box;
  • Confirm by "Länderauswahl bestätigen".
  • The country now should be displayed right of the field;
  • Type in significant information on the name of the university in the two fields at the bottom. Choose your university.
  • Should it not be found through the search field, then identify by going through fields 2 and 3, location and type of institution and then chose your university below.
  • Once identified, press on the plus (+)-sign and print out the page opening.

Once completed, please provide the same to us, so we can implement it into the work permit processing.

2. Identification of the field of study

  • Click "Hochschulabschlüsse" on the left side;
  • Click the tab "suchen" on in the middle part;
  • Chose your country (if not preset already from previous action);
  • Confirm by "Länderauswahl bestätigen";
  • Check the type of degree in field 2;
  • Check the type of studies in field 3;
  • If not working, neutralize the fields in 2 and 3 and search by entering significant keywords in the two bottom fields.
  • Once identified, press on the plus (+)-sign and print out.

Once completed, please provide the same to us, so we can implement it into the work permit processing.

Alternatively, please send us a copy of your university degree.

Please do not hesitate to contact us should you need additional information or support with processing for Germany.
