What if my mother lost her German citizenship by marriage before 01.04.1953?

A child of a mother, who has lost her German citizenship before 01.04.1953 by marriage might be entitled to German citizenship.

Until 1953, German law said that a woman who got married to a no-German foreigner, would automatically lose the German citizenship and obtain the husband's citizenship.

Children of such a woman (who have been born after 23.05.1949) can apply for Germany citizenship if this can show that this has happened.

This is not applicable for children of woman, who have given up their German citizenship by marriage in the time from 02.04.1953 onwards. The reason for this is that from that date onwards German woman could keep their German citizenship and as a consequence, giving up would be considered as done voluntarily.
