We will be happy to check whether you can apply for German citizenship because your ancestors were persecuted by the Nazis. This article describes which documents are required for the check.
To check whether you qualify for German citizenship, we need the following documents:
A) General documents (ID-documents and background information)- Applicant passport and ID card
- Applicant place of residence
- Information on current citizenships held or already applied for
- Proof that the applicants parents or his/her ancestors lived in Germany (Deutsches Reich with the borders of 31. Dezember 1937) and information on these periods
- Proof that the applicants parents or his/her ancestors were persecuted for political, racial or religious grounds
C) Document showing of loss of German citizenship:
- Former German identity or other documents (such as registration documents) of the applicant, of his/her parents, or of the relevant ancestors, indicating former German citizenship or
- documents showing that the applicant's ancestors were refused German citizenship by the Nazis for political, racial or religious grounds.
- Applicant birth certificate
- Parentage certificates
- Marriage certificate of the applicant’s parents / ancestors
- birth certificates of the applicant’s parents / ancestors
- Information on the living locations of applicants parents or his/her ancestors during the NS-time
- Proof that the applicants ancestors were deprived of their German citizenship between 30 January 1933 and 8 May 1945 on political, racial or religious grounds
