The convertion of a Blue Card to a Permanent residence permit is probably the easiest way to obtain a permanent residence permit.
To convert a Blue Card to a permanent residence permit, the following conditions must be fulfilled:
1. Employee to be holding German Blue Card.
2. Applicant to have been working as employee in a Blue Card job for a period of at least 33 months. The period reduces to 21 months, if the applicant has good Germany language skills.
3. Applicant to have paid into the German pension fund over the period defined in no 2 above.
4. Applicant to be living in a stable financial situation (§ 9 Abs. 2 Nr. 2 AufenthG)
5. Applicant not to be showing a criminal past and not being a threat to Germany (§ 9 Abs. 2 Nr. 4 AufenthG)
6. Applicant to be allowed to carry out his current work (§ 9 Abs. 2 Nr. 5-6 AufenthG)
7. Applicant to accept the German constitutional principles (§ 9 Abs. 2 Nr. 8 AufenthG)
8. Applicant to be living in a flat with an adequate size (§ 9 Abs. 2 Nr. 9 AufenthG)
9. Applicant to have at least simple language skills (§ 19a Abs. 2 AufenthG) or having successfully completed a German integration course (§ 9 Abs 2 S. 2 AufenthG).
Reminder: In case of good German language skills the periods mentioned in Nr. 2 and 3 reduced to 21 months.

- Special application by a holder of a German university degree (§ 19 Abs. 2a AufenthG).
- Application for a permanent residence permit EU (Daueraufenthaltstitel EU).
